Craftsman Craftsman
style homes remain one of the most
sought-after house plans for those who
desire quality detail in a home. While
often smaller than other contemporary
designs, Craftsman style homes make up in
livability what they lack in square
footage.
Old
Portland (also known as Four Square) The
Four-Square style house was popular from
just after 1900 to well into the 1930s.
Thousands of these Four-Square houses were
built in Portland and its older suburbs.
Virtually every older neighborhood in
Portland has many, many examples.
Ranch
Very popular in the 1940s
to 1970s, the ranch style home is closely
associated with tract housing built during
this period. The ranch house is noted for
its long, low to the ground profile and
minimal use of interior and exterior
decoration.
Victorian There
are many types of Victorian homes and
several in the Portland area have been
turned into Guest Homes or Bed and
Breakfasts. Victorian architecture is very
ornate, the homes are usually two or even
three story and are sometimes called
"Gingerbread Homes."
